Boundaries are there to be crossed: that's true for life, art, and for dancers in any case. Richard Siegal knows that. He is a dancer and a choreographer, and he's the director of Ballet of Difference (BoD) with studios in Munich and Cologne, currently one of the most exciting independent ensembles in the dance scene. This will be the fifth time Richard Siegal has been at DANCE. This year he will be at DANCE with the dance theater evening program Roughhouse and a documentary film of his work: the Munich filmmaker Benedict Mirow accompanied the choreographer and his young company over the course of one year, filming rehearsals and performances in Cologne and Munich, traveling with him to Lagos, conducting interviews, posing questions, and listening.
Rousing beats and dance scenes alternate in Benedict Mirow's film Draw a Line, which offers interesting insights into the BoD "family." The company's optimism and energy is contagious: can art change the world? BoD has already started to do this.
