Since 2018, choreographer Diego Tortelli and dramaturge and production manager Miria Wurm have been collaboratively creating independent dance projects in Munich. Their work is characterized by a clear yet complex formal and aesthetic language, both in terms of choreography and thematic content as well as its execution. Incorporating modern technologies and scientific theories, they craft contemporary dance pieces that reflect their personal perspective on the present moment.

At the core of each piece lies Tortelli’s distinctive choreographic style, which dissects the body into its individual parts and joints, much like a Tetris game. These elements are continually reassembled around the torso as a central axis— sometimes playfully surreal, sometimes geometrically precise and architecturally rigid. This approach reveals the body in its full beauty and capability, while also showcasing its fragility and brokenness, uncovering its memory traces through a form of poetic abstraction.

To date, Tortelli and Wurm have created works including Shifting Perspective (2019) for the explore dance network – Dance for Young Audiences (fabrik Potsdam, Fokus Tanz/Tanz und Schule e.V. Munich, and K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg), followed by SNOW CRASH (2020), HOLE IN SPACE (2021), Fo:No (2022), GOD’s FORMULA (2022), TERRANOVA I body mapsin, a co-production with the Orsolina28 Art Foundation (2023), and GF Reloaded for the fashion house Hermès, performed at the Bassins des Lumières in Bordeaux (2023).

Their piece HOLE IN SPACE was selected as the sole German contribution by the Aerowaves network for the Spring Forward 2022 Festival and was staged by Tortelli in 2023 for the Greek National Opera Ballet. Additionally, Fo:No was the winner of the first call for Italian artists for a co-production at the Biennale Danza di Venezia under the direction of Wayne McGregor, where it premiered. They also produced the short documentary ID-Body for the Biennale Danza di Venezia to be showcased during its film screenings and created an independent film version of GOD’s FORMULA, directed by Jubal Battisti, in 2022.

In July 2023, they released their short film H – Schritte in schwarzen Räumen, an homage to the artistic work of German choreographer Raimund Hoghe. The film features Tortelli once again as a dancer in front of the camera and incorporates the dramaturge’s body as a referenced element. Both film productions (H and the film version of GOD’s FORMULA) were created as part of tanz:digital by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland and were screened at Hebbel am Ufer in January 2024.

In March 2024, their new production TERRANOVA I hidden link premiered at the Tanzfestival Saar and is currently touring Europe, including a performance at the Kalamata Dance Festival. Recently, they developed a body-architecture research project titled A MODERN HOUSE, with its first results presented in Munich in November 2024.
