Raimund Hoghe

Die Jugend ist im Kopf

Raimund Hoghe passed away in the night of May 14 in his apartment in Düsseldorf. We now remember him in mourning with this insight into his complex and rich work.

For his work Raimund Hoghe received the German Dance Award in October 2020, Germany's most prestigious award for choreographers. The award honored an artist who unerringly pursues his path despite any resistance, without compromise and consequently, and who stands by his values. Aesthetically as well as politically. His words "throw one's body into the fight" were the inspiration for the choreographer Hoghe to start his stage career, who at that time at the beginning of the 1990s had already pursued two careers – as a journalist and a dramaturge under Pina Bausch. He contrasts the beauty in his pieces with the knowledge of the abyss.

As a substitute for the originally planned production Canzone per Ornella DANCE 2021 will show Raimund Hoghe's film Die Jugend ist im Kopf with an introduction by Katja Schneider, professor for dance theory.
